This
trash station is to be located at 1477 Bedford
Street, Abington, Massachusetts. It will be located between Farmers Market and
Johnson Bus. It is located across the street from the Pool Place/Christmas
Place.
This
trash
station will be
a huge construction and demoliton trash transfer station.
Route 18
is overcapacity today! It cannot handle the additional traffic.
The
developer is increasing the truck traffic on Route 18 over 100%
The
environmental impacts to the residents of Abington and Weymouth being ignored.
Why REACT is opposed to this project:
Inadequate traffic study that only included ¼ mile of Route 18 and did not
include side street impacts. Over 100% increase in truck traffic on Route 18.
Noise studies are inadequate and technically deficient. There will be excessive
noise from additional diesel truck traffic and operational machinery.
Failure to meet site suitability criteria for prevention of groundwater
contamination.
No air emission study for the facility was conducted. Emissions from trash
transfers, diesel truck fumes and uncovered trash trucks was not considered.
Impacts to nearby residents were not assessed. There is a significant residential
population that is within ¼ mile of the proposed transfer station.
Inadequate odor control plan; it is suspected that obnoxious and pervasive odors
will be generated.
Nearby species of special concern were not considered (e.g. spotted turtles and
salamanders).
Generating wind blown litter that may despoil the surrounding area.
