The developer is increasing the truck traffic on Route 18 over 100%

The environmental impacts to the residents of Abington and Weymouth being ignored.

Why REACT is opposed to this project:

  • Inadequate traffic study that only included ¼ mile of Route 18 and did not include side street impacts. Over 100% increase in truck traffic on Route 18.
  • Noise studies are inadequate and technically deficient. There will be excessive noise from additional diesel truck traffic and operational machinery.
  • Failure to meet site suitability criteria for prevention of groundwater contamination.
  • No air emission study for the facility was conducted. Emissions from trash transfers, diesel truck fumes and uncovered trash trucks was not considered.
  • Impacts to nearby residents were not assessed. There is a significant residential population that is within ¼ mile of the proposed transfer station.
  • Inadequate odor control plan; it is suspected that obnoxious and pervasive odors will be generated.
  • Nearby species of special concern were not considered (e.g. spotted turtles and salamanders).
  • Generating wind blown litter that may despoil the surrounding area.
